    Driver Side Door Lock Mechanism

I recently rebuilt the lock and it ALMOST works 100%.

When I bought the car, the cylinder was toast and locking had to be done via trunk or passenger side, so I'm not sure what the state of things where prior to my ownership.

Anyways, the problem is this. I cannot get the doors to just "lock". It will either only unlock or double lock (45* turn).

Anyone have any input what could be at fault here?

The car locks normally when I sit inside and push the lock down. It doesn't double lock any of the doors, so would that rule out the lock actuator on the diver side door? It would also eliminate central locking issues..since everything seems to be in working order.

I'd really like to figure this problem out. Thanks!

Does the lock kick back when trying to just normally lock it? does it work from the passenger side? You might need to recync the door lock module or replace the module all together. it is located behind the drivers side speaker panel below the the speaker. Speaker needs to be removed. Two screws hold he bracket in, once removed allows you to pull the module up and out.

There is no kickback. Passenger side works fine as does the trunk lock.

Everything works as it should, as smoothly, except there is no "lock" function via driver side key operation. Only lock and double lock.

well if the pass side locks everything including the drivers lock normally then I can't see it being the actuator. It seems like you have a problem with the Central control lock module. see previous post.

Or, unlock from the drivers side and keep the key in that position. Then slowly turn the key to 30 degrees and back, not the full 45. see if it responds.

I had a problem with my door lock mech, and not only was my lock broken but the latching mech wasn't engaging so it wouldn't lock from the door but would unlock. So I ended up changing this, plus I rebuilt the lock cyl and then got everything working again.

I had that problem with my 91' Ix. i bought the rebuild kit for drivers door .The rebuild kit is an upgraded kit ,I've been told. At first it would only double lock but with a little time it worked itself out to operate correctly. Give it some time and who knows. good luck ,Joe

Thanks for the advice so far. I don't mind people continuing to chime in as I do want the problem remedied (if possible).

But to mitigate the situation, keyless entry HERE I COME.
