    Loud Fuel Filter?

For a while now I've heard a sound like air escaping from somewhere under the car. I figured it might be the section between the cats and the final exhaust. So, this weekend I got under the car and tightened the bolts there. It turned out to be the fuel filter.

I replaced the fuel filter maybe 1000 miles ago. You can definitely tell it is the fuel filter if you put your ear near it. Is it normal for new fuel filters to make that sound? My old one had a 1997 date stamped on it and didn't make any noise. I'm assuming the sound is a good thing and it means my filter is actually doing its job.

    Thoughts?

Also, the car has no issues with starting, idling, etc.

I can't see how a filter would make noise, but the pump mounted above the filter on an early car certainly can make noise when it is worn.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

My thoughts. My pump would whine when running.

i think it might be the fuel pump. i can hear my external pump over my engine and exhaust.. i also thought it was my exhaust but found out it was the pump.
