heater core test?

I bought a car with the heater core bypassed. There is a distinct chance that it is leaky and or doesn't work in some way. Without hooking it up and possibly flooding the interior is there a way I can test it? pressurize it somehow and check for leaks?

I took one to a local radiator shop and had them test it. They didn't charge me. It's not too difficult to get it out.
