Huh? You guys really go through the extra work of screwing with the hood?

I don't see why you wouldn't just remove the hood... just mark it with a sharpie and find someone to help you put it back on. it's like 6 bolts...

Seriously. I can remove an e30 hood by myself in like 10 minutes. Just pop the hood, take out 2 of the 4 bolts, loosen the other two that have open/slotted holes, then just tilt it up and lift it off. Don't forget to disconnect the hood shock first.

                          I would suggest removing it

i plan on having the hood off when i swap a good head over to my new car and do the t-b stuff mainly since its my first time and i prefer to have a head on view of what i am doin...tho i am sure after doing it a time or two you wont have to since you know how it goes a little better

If its your first time, definitely pull the hood. Its a lot easier to see what all is going on down there. Once you do it once or twice its fine with the hood on, and then you don't have to mess with lining it back up again.
