I love e21's. I really consider myself a e21 guy at heart since they were the first few BMW's that i owned.

That being said they have a lot going against them. They are sort of the red headed step-child in BMW circles.
Mainly in the US though since we got the crappiest models of them all and they just got crappier as the years progressed.

About them being small and nimble is not exactly true either.
Well we all know about the rear semi-trailing arm problems.
But the e21 is actually one of the few if not only model that is heavier than the newer model (e30) replacing it. True story.

I thought e21's weighed 200 lbs less than the lightest e30 since e21's only came with 4 cylinder engines?

what is the rear semi-trailing arm problem you're speaking of?

Since when are e21s heavier than e30s?

EDIT: seems like you are right, 320i is like 2600 lbs... wtf? the 318i e30 is lighter????!

Yeah seems like the production assembly technology made the initial e30's lighter than most of the e21's.
Sure some of the loaded up e30 are heavier but its very minimal at best.
            Definitely not what you'd expect.

The rear suspension problem is the same that plagues the e30's.
            Throttle off oversteer.

Yeah I was kind of amazed when I saw the weight stamp on a 323 - about 2700lbs.

                    E30 > e21

                    Possibly

Just too bad the E21 is such a better looking car...

Oh - the oversteer is part of these cars charm, just watch out for curbs ... LOL
