how might one track down a vacuum leak?
also is there a way to adjust the idle on a 1.3?
524 is 1.3 right?Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

No, you can't adjust the idle.
To find the leak get a can of brake cleaner and spray it around various places on the intake. When the leak sucks the stuff in the idle will change. I will say right now to check the rubber boot from the AFM to the throttle for cracks, check all the pressed in fittings on the side of the throttle for the brake booster and idle valve, and check the breather hose from the valvecover. Those are common vac leaks on these cars.Adam Fogg- '88 M3

please don't use brake cleaner. go get real throttle body/carb cleaner and spray it sparingly on common places like where hte throttle body connects to the head and other vacuum ports.Originally posted by AdamF 88iSNo, you can't adjust the idle.

What difference does it make? As long as you're not drenching the motor with it you'll get the same effect from either one.Originally posted by jht3please don't use brake cleaner. go get real throttle body/carb cleaner and spray it sparingly on common places like where hte throttle body connects to the head and other vacuum ports.Originally posted by AdamF 88iSNo, you can't adjust the idle.

so im guessing i should let it warm up first, i dont have a cold idle(i dont think , may have adjusted after last time) what could cause this?Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

or propane or a number of things. I think you are confusing brake cleaner with brkae fluid. ;)Originally posted by kowalskibrake cleaner is much more corosive then cab cleaner. it will eat paint and such, what you could use is ether, which would make your idle pick up when it got it, and its not corrosive.

well in my case of leaking throttle body gaskets, the space would seal up better as the engine heated (think thermal expansion). i shot of tb cleaner right by the gasket and the engine would sputter. when i took the plenum off, i found a hose that was cracking.Originally posted by NC325iCso im guessing i should let it warm up first, i dont have a cold idle(i dont think , may have adjusted after last time) what could cause this?
go to the parts store and buy a can of tb cleaner or starting fluid. the first will make your engine bog down, the other will rev it up. both are safe for your engine health in moderation.James
