As title says, I have this strange tapping noise but it goes away when I push the clutch in. It starts around the engagement point of the clutch. It's not too loud but it's audible to me. What gives?

Is the noise only present when the transmission is in neutral and the clutch engaged? That could be rattle from worn transmission input shaft bearings. If the noise is present when the transmission is in gear, it could be from the transmission, drive shaft, or clutch. The gain a clue as to the cause, get the car up on a lift, duplicate the problem and find out where the noise is coming from. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Kinda sounds like marbles?
More pronounced when next to a wall like in drive-thru?
Not worth fixing and the box will still outlive the car.
If the bearings are dead, it doesn't affect the trans, or the car, at all?
The noise is kind of annoying (only to me), mainly because my E30 before made NO NOISE at all, super quiet cabin, but if it won't affect anything, I guess I'll be fine.

Though I started my car once the engine and trans were cold, the noise was nonexistant. I'm sure it'll come back if I actually drove it around.Originally posted by TSI♫ Rust flecks are falling on my head...♫OEM+
