Lost transmission fluid, clutch doesn't work

So I went to my car this morning to find a pool of oil under my car. Turns out it is the transmission fluid. Somehow it all left the transmission. The clutch pedal goes straight to the floor with no resistance. It doesn't pop back up after it goes to the floor, so I can't drive it.

So in my limited knowledge of how a clutch actually works, what is the deal here? Is there any way to get it driving again or do I have to tow it to a place to work on it?

Your tranny is fine. Its break fluid that was under the car. Sounds like you have a blown seal in the clutch slave or the line ruptured. id check this guy and the lines supplying it: https://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/cat...utch_slave.JPG

It was the color of transmission fluid though. I checked the brake fluid and it was a little low, but still plenty in the reservoir.

when you press the clutch, the clutch master cylinder(4) pressurized the oil in the line that goes to the clutch slave(5) which forces a piston out that disengages the clutch. if there is no pressure in the line between 4 and 5 you get the symptoms you describe.

ttrousdell is right; the transmission fluid doesn't have anything to do with losing pressure in your clutch pedal. The clutch fluid and brake fluid are the same in these things. There's either a leak in the fittings or the lines to the slave cylinder or the slave cylinder itself needs replacing.

Thanks for the help, we just got done looking at it.

The car leaks a LOT of fluid from everywhere. The slave is bad, it looks like the pool of fluid is a mix of everything that got washed down with the brake fluid. A new slave should fix it, I just need to start working on my seals soon as well.
