    Gauge cluster/blower motor/reverse light issues

On my friend's '91 318is, a couple of days ago the instrument cluster suddenly died, along with the blower motor and all the indicator lights on the cluster.

Funny thing is, they work for about 5 seconds when you first turn the key on/start up the car, then everything dies. The tach needle reads correct, then drops off... everything stops working except for the speedometer and the cluster's illumination. The blower motor will not work in any position on the switch.

We just noticed tonight that his reverse lights also do not function... does anyone have any clue what would cause all these problems to appear simultaneously?

"See, we're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anyone wanna see second prize? Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired."

      Fuse 10 blown?

If so check under the shifter boot as the wires for the back up lights are there and over time they get frayed which causes a short, fuse 10 then blows.

fuses don't blow and reconnect themselves. something a bit more complicated, check SI battries, as for blower i have no idea.

fuse 10 fixed the instrument cluster.
Fuse 20 fixed the heater blower.

Don't know why the both stopped working though.

I was thinking it was a fuse as well. I've had the blower fuse blow in a E34 when I put the E-brake on while idling. The only other light that comes on is in the cluster, so I'd assume their electrics are connected.
