headlight switch reversed/messed up WITH PICTURES.

in efforts to prep my car for it's safety for the ministry, i'm trying to work out a bug thats been bugging me.

bare with me as I try to explain this.

when the car is not running, no key in ignition-
Pull the light switch--> radio and parking lights turn on

when the car IS running...light AUTOMATICALLY TURN ON
Pull the light switch--> lights turn off

When the car is running...with lights on, (switch off)
hit the highbeams--> ALL LIGHTS TURN OFF.

When the car is running...with HIGHBEAMS TURNED ON, light switch must be ON.

My solution is essentially to keep the lights AS IS, with the highbeam stalk activated all the time, and use the light switch as the highbeam activator.

Somewhere along the line, the P/O was in there and messed around.

there is a wire spliced into the switch housing, thats not connected to anything...it's not factory, I've search and looked everywhere for it's companion but nothing available....might of been used as a groud wire??

in efforts to solve this, I searched EVERYTHING...all relays/fuses are good.
Did find 1 ground wire that seems to of detached at the hood of the car...unsure if it'd impact my headlights however.

    pic 1)
random spliced in wire at headlight switch...male connector, no female found anywhere...ground?

Heavy gauged ground wire at hood?
    where does this reconect to?

It sounds like some "creative" re-wiring has been done. I think your best bet for sorting it out would be to get the factory wiring diagrams and trace out wiring to see what has been changed. The wiring diagrams can be found at http://wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

      great thanks...

after looking at the diagrams, it seems as if there should be a ground wire at the steering column, which happens to be the perfect length of the rogue wire floating around...

I'll do it up tonight and see if this brings a solution.

      Cheers,
      Ryan
