    F'ing electrics

    89 325i 2 door auto.

PO or whoever installed a CD played some time ago. One of the messiest jobs I've ever seen. Originally I was pretty sure that he must have f'ed something up, but I'm not so sure now. Here are the symptoms:

    1. Battery gets drained if the car is not driven in a day or two

    2. Most of the time, not always, it is possible to turn on the radio without the key in the ignition.

    3. Also most of the time, but not always, digital clock, check control, turn signals, and wipers are on without the key turned on.

There's got to be more things that are getting power all the time as well as I've disconnected radio, clock, and chek control and it still drained the battery in 2 days.

Also there are signs of some major fock up in the area of 3 auxiliary relays (main relay, O2 heater relay, and fuel pump relay) with evidence of things being melted and then fixed up. Car runs fine otherwise.

    My attempts:
    1. Removed all the wiring ran by PO to the battery that was feeding the CD player
    2. Changed the battery to a very fresh one
    3. Changed the ignition lock wiring harness
    4. Looked around a lot hoping to find something obvious, but unsuccessfully.

    Any ideas?

Go threw and trace every single wire they ran for the CD player and remove them all, From there see what it does, then start tracing the wire on the systems screwing up.

They ran dedicated wires for speakers, that's the only thing that's left from the install. I've removed wires to the battery, amp, and sub. I'll probably have to do what you said. Not fun...

Check the hazard flasher switch. It has a diode that can go bad, causing your symptoms.
If you simply unplug the hazard switch, it may cure your battery drain problems, but you won't have turn signals. Replace it.
