    Brake lights not working

Ok so went to vehicle inspection and failed because my brake lights were not working. So checked the following:

    1. checked fuse 22&23 good
    2. brake light switch good. (even swapped with a known good one and it still did not work)

    Anyone have any other suggestions?

Check the wiring going into the taillight assembly. Fairly common area for this to go wrong. Clean out where the wiring harness attaches to the taillight assembly and where the bulbs plug into the assembly

check the wiring, but both sides are not working. Should have put that in my original post. I'll clean them up and see if that fixes it.

traced it back to fuse 6 (7.5amp). Replaced it and it blew again. Now gotta found out why it keeps blowing

          Back from the dead...

My brake lights are out. Fuse 6, 22, and 23 are good. I put a voltmeter on the brake light switch and its resistance drops when the brake pedal is pressed. All the bulbs in the taillights look good. The brake light lamp is illuminated on the check panel as soon as I start the car. Help before I get rear-ended!

resistance should drop when you press the pedal. Have you checked the wiring going into the brake lights?

I replaced the switch, checked wiring, and bulb sockets - still no brake lights. But I do have taillights.

Well, I changed my bulbs out today, and still no brake lights. I checked the wiring, as well as the sockets to make sure they arent corroded. My reverse lights work, and the taillights work. But no brake lights. Help!

Behind left trunk panel on drivers side, there is a module up near where the amp is located for premium stereo's. Remove this, and replace with one from a working car. This module controls the rear lights, and I think the brake lights too. May be the root of your problems.

you might be onto something there, i remember the first time i put in a radio and rewired the speakers i left it unplugged and was liek "WTF NO BRAKE LIGHT" so i plugged it back in and i was good to go.

Well, problem solved. I replaced the relay in the trunk, and still no lights. I checked the power going to the brake switch, no power. I checked the fuse, and #6 was blown. Wierd, it wasnt blown before! Anyway, I replaced the fuse and it works (hopefully the fuse wont blow again). Thanks to all that helped!
