RE: brake light switch, post 5 sp swap

Hey guys just had a five speed swap done on my airbag '91 325i and am currently running a nut duct-taped to the brake pedal so my brake lights aren't on all the time.

My question is, anybody know what exactly causes the mis-match? Is it the different brake pedal? Position/placement of the brake light switch bracket in the box (the auto pedal box was retained & left in the car) or what?

Oh, so just grab the brake light switch from a five speed car and pop it into the bracket? That's so easy. I don't have the one from a donor car anymore but that's okay should be easy to acquire. Thanks!

Vatozone has them for like 15 bucks.

Unfortunately, by the time it gets to you, all of that fancy stuff will likely have been picked clean by the greedy postal service employees. Please don't be surprised to see just a plain envelope.

Just checked out realoem and it doesn't look like there is a different part number for an automatic car. This leads me to believe the part is the same for both automatics and manuals...

Just to clarify, without the makeshift nut "stopper" my brake lights are on all the time because the brake light switch is not pressed in when the brake pedal is at rest like it's supposed to.

You need to reset the brake switch. If is self adjusted when installed. Depress the pedal and pull out the plunger all way. It will set itself when the pedal is returned to the stop.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I tried this today and couldn't pull the plunger, it seems like it does not extend? What am I doing wrong?

Okay, I have no problem doing this... but will it be different then mine? Am I not wrong saying that they're all the same (same part #)?

FYI I retained the automatic pedal box because i didnt want to unbolt the steering column. So I guess this is the issue.
