When I first bought the car, my passenger window didn't work. I tapped on the motor a few times with a hammer and it worked for a good 3 months, and then gave out again. I tried diagnosing the problem after much laziness last week. I tried tapping the motor with a hammer again but no success. When I press the button, I can hear a "click" coming from my window, but the motor isn't moving. I have the early style regulators so it's cumbersome as hell. Any ideas?

unplug the plug that goes from the window switch to the motor (on late model window motors it's a black plug with a blue and black wire) and ground one and test the other with 12 volts directly from the car's battery. Since it's a reverse polarity motor simply switch the ground and power and see if it works the other way too.
I thought my motor or regulator was crapped out as well since I kept hearing a click too, turns out the wiring somewhere else is screwy, I have yet to figure this part though.Last edited by Heysüß; 06-05-2011, 05:48 PM.09/1989 325i 4 Door

and yeah, that's what everyone kept telling me since it did the same thing (just a click and whirring sound) I also thought it was either the regulator or the motor, but as soon as I jumped it, it worked as if the motor was brand new. I have a thread in the electrical section that has some troubleshooting I did if you think it'll help at all.09/1989 325i 4 Door
