    Engine knocking sounds

Ok, so my car sat for about 9mo's while i was at college. The oil was all gone when i got back, and put some more in, took about 4.5 qts

Anyway, the engine now makes a bad knocking sound when run. What could this be? How can I check? Thanks!!

Someone drained your oil, then drove the car.

You have a spun bearing, most likely a rod bearing.

Time for a new engine, or to rebuild yours.

Ok thanks, just a little update.

Now that the oil has gotten through the system, it idles fine, sounds ok, it only has the knocking/rattling on acceleration at around 2k rps.

About the spun bearing. How much does a rebuilt on an m20 run? compared to how much for a new engine? Thanks

new engine is $4600 from the dealer plus $2100 labor to install it. a rebuild shouldnt cost more than $1000
