    Cluster swap

    Whats the word on cluster swaps. I have a 1984 318i, can I swap clusters with a 1991 318i?

I don't have any definitive answers on yours (there are physical differences between the units). BUT, I'm currently using a cluster from a 87 325e, with a speedometer and fuel gauge from a 91 318is and the temp gauge from a 1984 325e. As a whole the clusters are interchangeable, and internal parts the differences I saw were between the tach's, SI boards, and fuel gauges. Late model 325's had different tanks.

TLDR: try it, i dont suspect you'll have any problems.

The late cars have radically different fuel level values, they are not interchangeable, but AFAIK, you can simply swap the gauge form the '84 cluster into your late cluster.

      As above, try it.

Ok so I swapped clusters (mines old white back) with a newer blue back unit. Everything works perfectly, except the fuel gauge as stated above. I even took the speedo from the new unit and put it in my old unit, works perfectly!

I have had two late model clusters now and I am not getting any signal to the tach. I have an 85 325e. What do I have to do to get the tack to work?
