    Ac not Working Well

I have a 1991 325 and am wondering if anyone has converted from R12.

    Thanks Andy

I had a car a while ago that was converted. Its not too hard to do if you get the kit from bmw and if your compressor is compatible. If you have the compressor that works with the conversion then the kit is like 250 or something.

I'm running r134a with pleasing results.

I replaced the 'o' rings that I could get at with the r134a compatible ones and haven't had an issue yet after nearly a year later.

Though my compressor was unserviceable so I had it rebuilt to suit r134a.

So is something I can trust a local AC shop to do, or DIY?

Still working on the R12, just not very well above 90 degree.

if you decide to do it yourself make sure your careful where the old gases spray out. you wouldnt want that spraying in your face.

There are numerous threads on here for running R134. I would convert it myself instead of running freeze 12 or other products

<----converted. Only downfall of the R134 conversion is the condenser. unless you can find something that is R134 designed and bolts right in, don't expect meat locker conditions in your cabin. It was originally designed for R12 efficiency in mind, so don't be too impressed if it can't fight off 90+ degree weather and at anything under 45 MPH. As long as you're in constant motion and you have a good working R134 compressor, you should be alright. I live in SW Florida and it gets pretty nasty down here.

Oh and I did the whole route. Replaced the compressor, expansion valve, drier (that's a must to do), cleaned the evaporator, flushed the lines, and put green o-rings on everything that I could. Works pretty well now, just takes some time to cool down during the heat ridden days here.

yes I also found this to be the case with e30's in general; the a/c system aren't that "ccccold on extremely hot days.
