Broken rocker arm.... can I just replace them?

I have an eta head in the basement, can I just swap the rocker arms from it?

You could just replace that rocker arm......but the other ones are probably stressed and will break soon.

You could replace all the rocker arms.....but not sure on using the eta ones......or any used rockers. Maybe some like 30K ones......maybe.

IE sells the cheapest rocker arms I know of, as well as shafts......which you should also replace while you're at it.

While you got the head off......you need to replace the rocker arm sharft end plugs....and valve cover gasket.....and why not spark plugs.......and need a new head gasket.....and etc etc.

Ever wanted a performance cam? This is the time to put one in.

Broken rocker arms suck. That makes 3 of us on the forum which them currently.

IMHO I would just replace the rockers with new peices and not do all the work to put used ones in. It'd be kinda silly.

Watter pump(depending on when you last did the timing belt)

Fuel injector O-rings
Just buy a Upper gasket set from Bav-auto for around $100 this will included all the gaskets and seals. Then you'll just need plugs, timing belt, and head bolts.

Ely, what about bent valves, valve seats, and guides? http://www.r3vlimited.com/phpBB2/vie...643&highlight= How many miles were on the head you had ported? I have 120K miles on my head, do you think it's a possibility my valves would be bent?

I guess what I'm asking is it better to replace the arms and shafts and all the seals. Or should I have the head rebuild with new valves, springs, keepers, etc.

I am going to have to replace the valve stem seals, definately.

I am putting in a new performance cam, would this add any other neccessary components? Should I re-use my springs and keepers? I just wanna be sure I'm not doing all this work to have it bomb down the road!

the m20 isn't worth spending money to put everything brand new in the head and pay retail price. Just replace your exhaust rockers with ones from an m20 with less miles.. or just that one that broke.
you might as well get a mild overhaul on the head (valve stem seals, valve grind, maybe deck the head a tiny bit for higher compression)
did you over rev? if you did, you probably need some new valves

So with a performance cam, is all the valvetrain "good enough" to continue using. I definately having replaced the rockers, shafts, and valve steam seals.

So there's nothing that really needs to be replaced besides what Ely posted? (Except of course for possible bent valves......)

As long as you broke it hitting the rev limiter, you should be fine. If you over reved while down shifting, you probably bent a valve. I have to replace my rocker arm on the #1 cylinder on the intake side cause I broke mine hitting the limiter in third. Someone should make a chip with a softer limiter. I'd be all over that. The only one I know of is EFI engine management that would cost $4500 for everything. I'm gonna replace all my rocker arms and eccentrics while it's out. My eccentrics have flat spots on them so I doubt my valve lashing is accurate. Anyway, good luck with your situation. I already have all the parts I need, just no time......

Someone should make a chip with a softer limiter.

Silly statement. Putting a chip into a car that hasn't had upgraded valve spring is waiting for disaster if it's continuisly over reved.

That is why the factory put a rev limiter on the chip.

and clean out all the carbon depoits in the valves and all that other good stuff
