    Is this starter wire damaged?

I'm trying to remove the starter off my S38 (which is a completely different problem), but as I took off the intake plenum I saw the wires that attach to the starter solenoid. The "black-yellow" wire (not sure which that is for, seems to go behind power cable) likes like it has been squeezed, but not severed. From these pictures (sorry for poor detail, my digital camera just wasn't able to focus well on the wire) I think I can kinda see exposed wire, but maybe not. Could this be the cause of my dying starter (or the reason why the starter doesn't always engage the flywheel)? Any recommendations for fixing it? What does the yellow-black wire do? If the wires aren't touching I'll probably just use electric tape, but if they are touching I think I'm kinda screwed cos I can't get a soldering iron in there.

Is there an easy way to do that? What guage wire? Is soldering with rosin solder ok? Im competinent, but not proficient at soldering... my only concern.

A GOOD quality crimp with heat shrink tubing would be ok... Try to get BMW OE crimp splices, they are much better than the radioshack crap.

Good call... I'm calling my dealership parts department today. I'll see what they have.
