    A Good Tire Choice?

I need to order some tires for my E30 this month...

... I'm thinkin' about 225/50/15 V-rated Yokohama AVS ES100s, at $83 each from Tire Rack.

They're obviously affordable, and I've heard they're pretty good.

The car's gonna do mostly track day duty, but will be street driven on occasion, and to/from events.

Any experiences/comments on these tires, or better ideas?

Cheap, sticky enough for school usage, great street tires, excellent in the rain. I run the same size on the Ti, it's stable at 95+ in the wet.

Thanks, Charlie m'good man --- 'ppreciate the knowledge from the Pinnacle of E30 Driving himself 8)

Do you think going to Victoracers is worthwhile, for another $33 each?

so there's no fitment issues with running 225's on a stock or slightly lowered setup?

As long as your offset is right, and your fenders are rolled, 225's can fit with no rubbing.
I've heard that with absolutely perfect offset, and rolled fenders you can fit 235's all aorund (maybe only on earlier cars) and it will only rub on full lock turns. Not sure about that though.

how much does it cost to roll the fenders, and does it look any different from the exterior or can you only tell the difference if you take the wheel off and look at the inside of the fender

rolling the fenders are only needed to clear the front with 225's, right?

also what are the downsides to rolling the fenders? rust? rigidity?

Most people say roll them only if they rub, but if your trying to push the limit on tire size, I say roll them just in case.

Downsides: You can mess up your paint, which leads to rust. I'm repraying my car anyway, so I don't mind the bare metal. From the outside I have no paint chips, and out of all the cars that I have rolled the fenders(maybe 5-6), I have never chipped the outside paint.

I cans ee no downside to having it professionally done, although the inside paint might still be messed up.

Highly recommended. Thats exactly what I'm running on my car. I have 15x7's with a 25mm offset and my car is quite low. The back tires are tucked about 1/2" and the fronts are within a 1/4" of being tucked. I have no rubbing what-so-ever except on really hard 1-2 upshifts. But my eibachs are pretty well spent, so with some stiffer springs you should have absolutely no problems.

Thanks guys, for the good info.

Any of you have experience with Falken Azenis? A few have recommended 205/50 Azenis to me, saying they're a li'l fatter than your average 205, and more capable than most non-R-compound tires.

                      Anyone, anyone?

I'm running 205/50 15 Falken Azenis sports right now. So far so good., although i understand that they will wear quickly. My next set of tires will be the Yoko AVS ES100's 225/50 15.

                          How long do you expect?

I heard that 10k miles is about the life of Azenis... I really planned on getting them, but I don't want to have to buy new tires so often.

Not sure. the tread wear rating is 200, the other tires i was looking at had tread wear ratings of 280 or greater.

The tire guys at Costco said i'd maybe get 20k miles (which i think is a lot and would be awesome). They said check tire pressure often, like every time i fill up gas. And rotate every 3000 miles. I really don't care, i'm just sick of those 1.9 Z3's whooping me at the AutoX so i tried to get the stickiest street tire i could find :)

10k on azenis, and you would be riding on cords.

I think 5-6k is realistic on those tires, I'm half down with ~500 miles of mostly autox & some street driving
