Trying to diagnose door ajar lights and gong (mystery wires too)

I'm trying to track down why my door ajar lights (and door gong for that matter) do not work. It's a piss off at night opening the door, having no lights, and fumbling around for things.

I opened up my knee bolster and kick panel to find a bunch of wires disconnected.

What I know:

-I'm not sure which is the door setting for the lights, but both settings for the interior lights cause it to go on.
-Door switches appear to be in good order; I've cleaned all the connections, grounded properly.
-On the driverside door switch, when toggled, it produces a clicking sound

Questions:

-Is there some sort of relay for the door ajar lights? Seems like it should be just a simple switch but it might be timed?

What are these wires for?

Before you tackle this did u verify if your interior lights are switch to auto instead of on or off

Yep. Its the 3 way kind. "Steady", "Off", and "Door".

My drivers side door switch thing is sticky. So to get lights to come on, I open the door, and then have to pull it out with my fingers. woohoo

My lights are always on in the 2 settings other than "off". AKA I have to toggle the switch to get them to turn on.

Do a SEARCH for a wiring diagram...these are helpful in diagnosing your issue. Germans are very creative in their wiring colors and transitions...lots of relays.

Most of those wires are for "optional" stuff, like, maplight mirror, power sunroof, cruise control etc.
