    replacing sunroof cables, how to?

I've found out why my sunroof won't open, and it's the sunroof cables. They're broken up right at the motor, so the panel won't move more than about a 1/2" until it jams up.

So I have a good set of cables, but how can I replace them without entirely removing the sunroof assembly and the headliner to get it out? I have the small headliner panel slid all the way back, and the top panel off so I can see the workings. The motor's out so I can slide the cables/guides back and forth on the rails.

I'm hoping there's a way to get the old guides and cables out with the sunroof assembly still in the car. Has anyone does this before who can advise?

Broken cables probably means that something is wrong with the sunroof mechanism.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Yes, the guides are pretty gummed up and don't move freely. Luckily, my new/used cables came with the guides attached to them, so they'll get replaced at the same time.

Got my answer tonight. You can just take off the two plates on top of the guides with 5 philips screws, then the guides pull off and you can pull out the cables. Reinstall will just be the reverse. Very easy.

I just have to clean the hell out of the tracks and cable tubes before putting the new cables in.
