head light leveling system...Hydraulic or Pneumatic?

My headlight leveling system seems to be out of "fluid".
The actuators are not stuck but when I turn the knob to
raise the light almost nothing happens. The lights barely
go up like its not really noticeable. This leads me to believe
that the system leaked but since I can see no leak I assume
its pneumatic? right? so I could just unplug the hose reset
the knob and plug them back? (Also find the leak)

Bumping this because I'm retrofitting these in my E30 soon.

Once a leak has started on the system, you might as well spend the $170 and get a new system from BMW. There is no way to refill the fluid to the required pressure and it be reliable. It's hydraulic btw, not pneumatic. ;)


You could retrofit the E36 system that's electric. I've seen a DIY for it, but didn't bookmark it. If I find it, I'll post a link to it.
