    E46 Help

I was wondering if anybody with a Bentley from an e46 walk me though the door pannel removal on the back door (4-door)?

Or if anyone has done it, can you walk me through. My sister's rear window wont roll up but I hear the motor working. I wanted to take a look at it before she goes to the dealer.

    Thank you in advance.

From your discription your sister needs a window regulator.

This is a difficult task for the beginner, I would recommend taking it
to the dealer and saving yourself lots of time and frustration.

However if you still want to fix it, post again and I will write up a step
    by step.

Thanks for the info. I got the procedure from another person from a different forum. I think I can handle it (who would you consider a beginner?). I am pretty mechanically inclined.

I just didnt want to break something because I didnt remove a hidden screw from the pannel.

      Thanks again.

        Update:

I am not sure if it supposed to look like this...

I tried working the window with the motor still. It looked as if the cable would start to move and then get jammed.

        Any suggestions?

        Thank you.

Thats a very common problem on all the late model cars.

What you need is a 'window regulator'. It will come with the track and cables and you can reuse the motor.

That type is very simple to replace:

Move the window glass down by hand until the 8mm bolt is exposed. Loosen that until you can pull the glass up by hand out of the track. It should stay in place at the top of its travel.
Then remove the regulator- 3 10mm nuts.
Pop the new one in, 3 10's, attach the glass, attach the motor, plug everything back in and try it out.

Make sure that the black vapor barrier is very well attached to the door. You don't want itt to leak.

            What he said^

Also I have had a couple were the broken cabe wraps around the plastic
gear on the motor and shreds it.

            Good luck

Thanks alot guys. I really appreciate it. I got the old regulator out. The gears on the motor look pretty good.
