    HELP! Pilot Bearing Question

I'm outside in the middle of this 5 speed swap and I cannot figure out how the pilot bearing goes in. I have the bearng, the thicker pilot bearng casing with the insulaton n t and the thin casing piece. How do they go in?

it goes in the tunnel where the input shaft on the transmission goes (the tunnel surrounded by the rear main seal). Put the bearing all the way in the back of the tunnel with grease, then the insulation piece, then the thin metal piece.
Do you not have a bentley manual?

Actually I work at UT as an IT Technologist in the IRIS Imaging & Robotics Lab.

I looked all through the Bentley manual but it doesn't even mention the insulated cap or the thin metal cap. As a matter a fact the guide on Pelican parts doesn't even mention it or show it either.

        Are those pieces even required?

I actually don't think they are really used anymore (dealer done), but I'm not sure. I used new ones when I changed mine though.

What purpose do they actually serve?

they are dust seals, the new bearings are sealed and have the shields built in.

my bearing wasn't sealed, but I guess OEM ones now are sealed?

Guess that means you don't need grease for the bearing if it's a sealed bearing.
