Little bit of engine/trans movement during low speeds.

    Hey guys,
To start off I'm pretty much new here. I came from vws, just got my first e30 a couple weeks ago off of metalsoul. I really like it so far its just a couple little things that arent big deals get on my nerves. It gives me an insentive to go fix them, were as my last car i hardly cared to fix things (didnt feel the tuition to since i didnt enjoy the car).

Anyways, I baught a 88 325is. One thing i noticed recently after getting used to driving a totally different car, was there is a bit of play. Best way to describe is it feels like mounts, but feels like the play is in the rear right where the shaft meets the diff. This is my first rwd car so it might just be me.

If I am rolling in 1st or 2nd around say a mall, where i have to go slow, and hit the clutch to go throw it into neutral it makes a sort of clunk sometimes. Feels like in the rear of the car, but basically the symptom of mounts (if i am in 2nd and going around 25 and hit the clutch quick you can feel the car sorta shift the power).

I dont know if its just me or if its possibly a u joint/too much endplay in the diff/ a mount. The p/o did not notice it and hes a legitimate guy. Maybe i am just expecting too much from an older car.

I am ordering a timing belt kit and if i needed a part i would order it all togather. Its just hard to diagnose since the shaft is kinda hidden above the exhaust and all.

    Thank you in advance.

could be your center support bearing or guibo being worn out. if you're under your car remove exhaust and shields and take a peek at the drive shaft where these are located.

I have pretty much redone the whole drive line in my car - guibo, csb, drive shaft, tranny mounts, suspension bushings etc etc and I still get that clunk. Make sure there's nothing really worn out, but don't go overboard because it might just be your tranny/diff that is worn out.

Don't forget too that a standard tranny car is directly driven by the engine, there's no fluid dampening like in an automatic transmission car. If you push the clutch in really quickly or abruptly and at the "right" rpm/load/etc. you can feel more clunks and shakes. Not saying nothing is worn out, but even when all is good you get it
