    Testing New Fuel Pump.. Help..

I took my old VDO fuel pump to a shop and they plugged it into 12 volts and said it was DEAD.. I guess they confirmed the problem I had this weekend at the track.

I found a replacement Airtex pump that I can retrofit into the bracket for about 40.00.

I place power to it in order to see if I have the cables right and there is no movement..

Does the pump need to be submerged in order for it to work?

I'm troubleshooting to see if it's not a false alarm and I have a problem with the fuel pump relay/fuse.

    Thanks in advance..

A fuel pump will spin, immersed in fuel or not. Though running a high pressure fuel pump dry isn't good for the pump.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

The new one doesn't even budge, but I feel that the OLD one clicks, but no spin. I'll retry..

Flip that around.. Sorry.. Still, nothing.. How do I ensure that the relay's are good? That is, if the fuel pump was good to begin with..

Put a test light or meter across the pump connector and crank the engine. The relay is only energised when the DME sees timing data from a rotating engine. Note that a bad CPS, a power or ground problem to the DME, or a bad DME will prevent a good realy from operating.

you can ground out the fuel pump relay by hand just to see if it will switch. I would make sure the relay is getting 12V and a good ground as well.
