    Instrument cluster problems

So, the cluster in my '89 doens't work. The SI lights are ALL on, 100% of the time, car running or not. I don't think any of the gauges work. For shits & giggles, I plugged in the spare eta cluster I have, and everything works (and the SI lights on it aren't stuck on), so I know it's not an electrical issue, it's internal to the cluster.

I pulled the cluster apart, and everything at least LOOKS to be ok. SI batteries have not leaked everywhere, nothing looks physically broken, etc. Where do I start? Is there anything thats a 'simple' check?

The symptoms would make me think of a bad SI board. It could be the main PCB in the cluster, but I'd replace the SI board first.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Jim, can I swap the SI board from an eta cluster into an i cluster?? Like I said, the eta cluster I have works.....

I think your ETA cluster will have the early SI board and your 89 cluster needs the late SI board. So they aren't interchangeable. The obvious difference between the two will be the arrangemanet and number of pins.

At that rate I might as well just source a used working cluster. Thanks Jim!
