    Changing Horn

Is it possible to change out my horn for one from a Porsche or Ferrari? I don't mean to sound like a queer or nothin' (Orgazmo lol), but I really like the high tone horns on Porsches. Do Fiats or VWs have the high tones too? I'm assuming they would be much cheaper...
but anyways, has anyone done this? How hard is it?

As long as you can find a way to attach it, and it's a 12v horn, then yes.

So it pretty much just comes down to finding a way to mount it?

I think I'll look for a VW one on eBay and try it out.

Yup, that and a little splicing/soldering should do it.

How many horns does the e30 have? (I saw an auction on ebay and the guy was selling two horns that he said he pulled out of a cabrio)

Yes, all e30's have two horns, one lower tone, and one higher tone. Makes for a nice match. Anyway, you can pretty much put any horn you want. I bought a pair of HELLA High Output Horns..... So loud...so good..Scares the crap outta people so they actually notice me. Normal horns suck. Mine get attention.

Can I tell from the horn housing which one is the high tone and which one is the low tone? I really want to put two hightone horns in. I love the horn sound on the old 911s. :D

Does any one know the frequency of the horns?

ok, first, i think the low tone is the drivers side, but don't quote me, i think that's how mine was, and the high tone was on the passenger side. As far as labeling, I really don't think they are labeled. If you want to remove the low tone, first let me say it sounds like ABSOLUTE crap, I hate high pitched tones, but anyway, put your head by each foglight and have someone honk the horn, hopefully you can tell which is which. If not, just remove one and see which one is still plugged in.

Also, i believe the tones are 300hz and 500hz or 400 and 600, or 300 and 600, something around those lines.
I recommend GRIOT'S GARAGE. I purchased my Hella High Output 118dB horns from them. At $70, they're not cheap for the pair, but they also have a "Ferrari Style" Italian horn.

Thanks, Chris. I'll check it out soon. I think it's either a love or hate with the hightone horn for most people. I happen to love them. Yeah, $70 is pretty spendy for a pair. What is the url to Griot's Garage? Do they say the frequencies of the horns? I wonder what the Ferrari Style one is? 750hz? I might just endup buying some old high tone Porsche horns off of eBay... probably get the best deal there.

This is the one you were talking about at Griot's Garage right?

I think I might get it. It has both horns built in. 530Hz and 680Hz! That's pretty high. And for $40, it isn't a bad deal.
