    M42 throttle body defective?

over the past few months ive noticed that if i back off the throttle a little i get what seems to be more acceleration. Im painting the intake manifold and cam cover so i looked at the throttle body. sure enough at full throttle the big butterfly is actually flipping back the other way and cutting down full throttle. Anyone else notice this?

also can i take out the 2 heating eliments for the throttle body? or at least disconnect them? the throttle body should warm up just at fast as the engine coolant anyways

I like them; an M42 paid my pay check yesterday so I'm pleased with them. :nice:

so have any of the several m42 guys that have posted in this thread noticed this or not? try it out. After i get the tb back on im going to look at the butterflies and adjust down till they are open the most.

here is the tb after some sanding and polishing

                          No, never noticed it!

Do not touch the plates they are designed to be open at an angle!

                            Re: M42 throttle body defective?

I've noticed that a little bit but only in 5th gear and at high rpm. Since I don't drive in 5th much (I live in the city) it's never been a problem for me. As for the heating elements I removed mine and the associated "pita" hoses too when I powder coated my intake and valve cover. This might be BS but I found the car to have better throttle response with it gone but then again I was driving a 87 Audi 4000s for a week prior. From the research I've done I found that BMW originally designed the M42 without the throttle body heater. They added it for the colder climates around the globe. Where I live it doesn't get very cold and my car is kept in a heated garage so out it went.

Here's a pic of my engine bay.
