    SRS light reset FAILURE, WTF??!@#

I used a scan-tool and got it to "clear fault code" but the shit won't reset. The code (019) says "reference memory set." Then when I look up what the 019 code means in my info it says "crash detection accumulator activated" and "detection accumulator is activated by operation of SRS system." But I have no idea what this actually means I have to do. Do I HAVE TO replace the SRS impact sensors on the fenders under the hood to get this shit to work? I am clueless at this point. Any help would be appreciated as always.

The electronics in E30 SRS systems are gay. They are almost impossible to reset them. Put a non-srs check panel in it and hope you never need the airbag.

My SRS light recently began flashing after I had a shop install springs and shocks. The shop owner sent me to two different garages down the street from where I live to have the light reset. Both shops spent about a 1/2 hour with their different reset tools, but neither could reset the SRS light. I figure next time I'm at a BMW shop or god forbid a dealer, I'll ask them to do it. In the meantime, I'm just gonna take out the bulb from the overhead check.

Hope I never need an airbag, but if I do, I don't know that I'd want to be punched in the face by a 14 year old, 1st generation airbag.

I've resorted to running a nonSRS check panel too. I'm the proud owner of a '92 325ic triple white. It's a USA spec car with a 525 Motronic ECU and an SRS computer. Since purchase, the SRS warning light on the overhead check panel has indicated faults. I've tried the top local independent and dealer with no success. After getting "gee, we don't know", I found a faq from Jeff Cocking on the big coupe groupe (http://normgrills.net/bcg/Listing_by_Topic.html) indicating that shorting diagnostic plug sockets 1 and 6 and turning the ignition to 1st position would get the check panel lamp to spool out fault codes. The SRS computer/motronic indicated 3 faults: 1,4,3,1; 3,2,3,1; 1,1,4,1. The first three digits designate x,y,z numbers and the last is d: 1=brief defect (short interuption of plug contact), 2=permanent defect. Luckily all mine appear temporary faults.

I talked to Peake and they claim their tool was never designed to reset the early BMW SRS systems. They don't ping at a slow enough baud rate. CalvinZERO, I'd love to know what tool you tried. There's a couple funky units that show up on the bay time to time, but I've never sprung for one. One requires a DOS PC with two 15 pin serial ports, no USB.
            Let's go exploring!
