    Screwed m42

My car started making a ticking noise, so i took it to the local euro mechanic and he disembled the front of the engine, one of the fucking pulleys that the timing chain runs on has broken and now the housing is broken. The mechanic thinks the cheapest way is to get a whole new m42 ad put it in which is going to cost somewhere near $2500 for engine + labour.

What are my options ? What would you do in this situation?

I was thinking if i need a new engine i may as well get something hot and piss the damn m42 off, what are some good replacement engines that will give me a substantial increase in power? and not gonna cost hell of a lot more

Also should i rip my broken engine apart and sell the parts on ebay ? (worth the effort?)

The timing gear broke? I'm sure it would be making more than a ticking noise. What housing are you refering to?

Sorry i'm not really engine illiterate so i wouldn't be able to tell you but apparently its a hard part to find in Australia. And the mechanic reckons $1000AUD to get one in from germany.

Yeh maybe in USA, E30 parts are pretty scarse in Australia.

yea if your timing gear broke, you would probably be experience broken valves or something. I think what hes talking about is maybe the timing chain runner, or guide. It shouldn't be that hard to get. If you can can you take some pictures of the broken part? We might beable to help you get the parts here, and ship them to you, thus saving on cost a bit.
