instrument cluster problems

so somewhere along the line I think someone installed an m3 instrument cluster in my car. It had the m symbol in the middle an the redline was higher.

however everything worked except the odometer/tripometer.

I found a good condition replacement at PnP and installed it today. Everything looks like it works except speedometer and again the odometer/tripometer.

the only thing I can think of is when I was installing it there was two single wires that plugged into the back of the speedometer side (blue wire with white or yellow stripe) that I may have plugged into the wrong holes or got them switched. It seemed like there was three holes where two wire were supposed to plug in but I wasn't paying attention when I took the original one out.

could these wires be the problem or maybe something else?

btw, I'll be putting that m3 cluster up for sale if anyone is interested

first off; it doesn't take much to fix the M3 cluster. get some good working gears as replacements.
Second, the plugs on the car are color coded to the back of the instr cluster. Any two wires plugs that I can remember are simply for lighting. there are 3 main plugs and 2 smaller round plugs and that's about it unless you have cruise control green socket with black plug.

yea, the m3 one would be an easy fix but the reclline is different. Also, when I put the new gauge in the gas meter showed a little over half where as the m3 cluster showed a little less the half. Alek rpm idle was under 500 on the m3 cluster but new cluster shows a little over 500...

so I'd rather be safer using the correct cluster

Middle plug is for obc blue is temp etc white is speedo or vise versa but middle is only for obcs
