    Fan hitting shroud....some thoughts?

I did my search... car was run over weekend at track and all was well.

1)I ll check engine mounts and rad. mounts
    2) Will worn mounts be obvious?....will engine move around alot( mine does not)?
    3) car is tracked so I have no prob doing an upgrade at same time
    4) I bet they are orig and at 105k its prolly time to change
    5) Should I go stock m mounts? Poly( IE), Turner solid, e 12 big six may work....?
    6) what about tranny mounts?.......which do you use?

    thanks!

After i found my motor mount was missing a chunk everyone then stated they are a weak point of m20s on the track. So I upgraded to IE urethane's. And they didn't make vibrations any worse really....not very noticably at least.

I had new OEM tranny mounts, but ended up breaking one. I eventually ordered Bimmerworld's upgraded tranny mounts and needed to buy the hardware at Lowes, but they are larger and an improvement I believe....with only a little more NVH.

Even if they aren't the cause of this problem, you ought to replace them, engine mounts at least.

.....you make sense as usual !...I will look, but the tranny mounts from BW did NOT include hardware...?

I trust your experience,...... so you would recommend the IE motor mounts and BW tranny mounts?

is it constatnly hitting, or because of excessive engine movement?

When BW sent the mounts, only they came. And even though I'd recommend replacing them with new nuts anyway, the stock did not fit. I just went to Lowes and picked up four M10? sized self-locking nuts and also 2 wave washers and a pair of flat washers. Maybe something else too.

But yes, I'd very much recommend the IE urethane motor mounts and BW tranny mounts.

          $70 for a pair

"Reduce your driveline movement in turns and braking for increased performance and more precise shifting. A must for track cars. Sold in pairs." $30/pair + cost of a few nuts at Lowes

If you are wanting to do guibo, and then the shift carrier bushing, (and a z3 2.8 shift lever I enjoy as well), you can wait to do the tranny mounts then because they'll have to come out anyway to upgrade the bushing.

I did my engine mounts first and the stock rubber tranny worked, but there was still play I believe in the drivetrain when shifting that was resolved somewhat with the BW tranny mounts. I think on track with my new tranny mounts I'll feel more confident shifting. I know that the UUC shift carrier bushing helped a lot with feel, as did the z3/4 SSK.

            Robert........good info...thnx again.

e30 evolution......it seems to be relatively constant but it is a new symptom so Ill look at it closer on Tues....would it being constant make you think its something else? Ill try to cover all the bases when inspecting it.

well, order IE urethane ones and you won't have to worry about it again.

I had to remove my strut brace but that was the only note about it. And I had to use PB Blaster a bit.

                luckily found before tracking:

.....thanks again, Robert. It was really torn apart..like your's. At least its no biggie and no real damage. I feel like Im getting more intmate w/ car.......and will be more confident on track as more parts get upgraded. Ill plan on your other mods too, soon enuf.......BW tranny mts, delrin shift carrier and Ill do guibo as well.......

                  on another note:

did you remove drive shaft harmonic vibration damper thingy?...I was told by a well known east coast guru it was something to consider....I never asked him why tho......

i have not removed it. one thing is to have clearance for a SSK, but i bent the selector rod like is explained a couple places and it worked fine.
