63 litre fuel gauge with 55 litre tank problem

    Hi,

I recently installed a '90 cluster in my '87 car (55 litre fuel tank), and when the tank is full, the fuel gauge reads 63 litres, which doesn't bother me. The problem is, when the tank is almost empty, it still reads like about halfway between empty and full. In my understanding, swapping the 55 litre gauge into the new cluster wouldn't work.
Is there a way to make the gauge work properly? I know that cars with 63 litre tanks have two fuel level senders while the 55 litre tanks only have one. Can I, for example, fit a resistor in the wiring of the fuel level sender to make it work?

You can replace the gas gauge in the cluster with one from an early car and it will then read correctly.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I would also check the fuel level sender.

That works fine, at least it did with the old instrument cluster. I will try to swap the gauge from the old cluster. Hopefully the new cluster being VDO and the old one being Motometer won't be a problem.

I have the same problem after swapping out my cluster. either change the fuel gauge or don't run the car empty!! :-)
the OBC can give an accurate and true reading of what fuel is left in the car.

I only recently had time to swap the fuel gauges, and now it works perfectly. Thanks guys!
