Check engine code

It blinks while driving sometimes so I did the gas pedal thing.
It said it was 1222 = o2 sensor.
Replaced o2 sensor and it still reads this code.
What else do I need to do?

Check for vacuum leaks.

You probably have a vacuum leak.

The extra air makes the fuel mixture go way lean and the sensor goes out of range trying to figure out what's going on; thats why it triggers the light.

A customer's '90 525i just came in. It had the o2 sensor code. His problem was the AFM. Ditto on what they ^^^ said.

I got the same code. It was a faulty AFM.

It actually has little to do with a problematic 02 sensor which is the popular misinformation. The problem is with the rest of the engine to make the 02 sense it rich or lean for more than 10 seconds.

That's because the 1222 code does NOT mean the oxygen sensor is bad. That would be 1221. 1222 means there's some sort of air leak or vacuum leak in the intake system. What made you think 1222 was the oxygen sensor?

This code is stored when the DME detects excessive deviations in the air-fuel mixture (too rich or to lean) for longer than 10 seconds. Possible causes: Fuel tank ran empty, Incorrect fuel pressure, Injector valve defective or cooked, Engine temperature sensor defective, Secondary air leak, Fuel evaporation control system defective, Air flow meter defective, and/or the combustion is being disturbed by mechanical failure (Spark plug, compression, intake/exhaust valves, etc.)"

emboldened is the possible causes of the check code. but I'd go vaccum leak or AFM.
