    Brake Light On Indicator.

So I have been having my brake light indicator one up above, whenever I put the key to run (2). The check engine light also comes on the dash, but once I press the brakes, both lights disappear. I have checked the bulbs and they appear fine. As do the fuses. Does it mean that the bulbs are about to burn out or do I have a separate problem on my hands? Thanks

That's how the check panel works. It's normal. And the flashing "check" on the gauge cluster is NOT your check engine light. It's just a check light that let's you know that you should check your check panel.

In other words, its a system and its working correctly.

Okay, well that doesn't answer my problem. I suppose I should just replace the bulbs.

You don't seem to understand. That is how it is SUPPOSED to work.

Yes, I found another recent thread and had my question answered. It would have been nice for him to say why it does it, rather than just saying it's "normal."

It's does it because the check panel always checks for equipment functioning properly. It doesn't have signal until you hit the brake switch. Once you've touched the brakes, it checks to see that everything is working as it should, then shuts the light off.

            Clear enough?

It's called a CHECK PANEL. It checks everything out before you start driving. If something is not right, the light in the check panel will stay lit. And the flashing CHECK in the dash just tells you to CHECK the CHECK PANEL.

check your tail light sockets to make sure the brake bulbs are secure, not faulty and the back is secure. Mine was doing that for a while. it is intermittent.

Clean your check control relay, it is likely corroded/oxidized, clean all the contacts in the plug that goes to your tail light panels, clean the contacts on the bulbs.

Use CRC 23 or other electrical contact cleaner and pipe cleaners to clean with.
