    Is my Transmission Driveshaft Bent?

So i pulled out my 240 tranny today, and I was playing around with it, putting my flywheel/pressure plate assembly on the splined shaft when I realize it wasn't quite rotating evenly. At one point in the rotation, the flywheel comes quite close to the bottom of the bellhousing.

Is there supposed to be a little play in the input driveshaft of the tranny? I could see the problem correcting itself when the flywheel is bolted to the crank and held stable in relation to the shaft. Am I just being paranoid?

The clutch disk is the only part that is splined and fits onto the input shaft of the tranny. Assuming you still had the pressure plate bolted to the flywheel with the clutch still in between, it is very likely that the clutch is not center on the flywheel/pressure plate since there is nothing to hold it centered. I.E. - The clutch is only held in place my the pressure from the pressure plate. Basically the flywheel and pressure plate are held inline with the crankshaft of the engine and the clutch is held inline to the input shaft on the tranny. Since the belhousing of the tranny is bolted to the engine, everything lines up correctly.

    Make sense?

Oh Jesus Christmas, duh. I feel like an idiot. Unless my clutch was magically centered perfectly. I had the M42 PP bolted to an M10 flywheel, so it's pretty likely the clutch wasn't centered.
