Car horn constantly honks.

I was making a left turn and all of a sudden my car was honking by itself. I thought maybe one of the buttons were stuck but that wasnt the case. I took off my steering wheel and found this.

I currently have it taped the stay straight and keep it from triggering the horn. So my question is whether the black piece holding the spring loaded metal piece is replacable. Also, is it suppose to stick out or go all the way in.

did you check real oem? I'm having the opposite issue my horn no longer functions i think that copper piece is no longer making contact with the trim ring anymore.

I found it. Took me a while though. It's #7 and held in with #8 and #9. Didn't seem like it was removable from the front but I guess it is. Oh and the pic shows it sticking out.

Broken horn contact--

what's happened is the outer black plastic sleeve that holds the brass contact in a vertical position has broken, (visible in the picture) allowing the brass contact to touch something on the steering column that's a ground.

Your horn honks by grounding, not with a hot lead, so you want to keep that brass contact from touching anything but the brass ring on the backside of the steering wheel.

Best to replace the contact assembly, but you can temporarily fix the problem while waiting for a new contact assembly by finding a stiff plastic sleeve that'll fit over the broken plastic sleeve and hold the contact in its proper location.
