    High Idle (1700-2000)

So after getting my car together I have a VERY high idle. It is constant and roughly about 1800 rpm. I have searched and I think it might be a bad TPS... mine has never had a real "click" (that I can tell anyways). Though the idle is high... the idle is VERY SMOOTH!

When doing the starter I cleaned the icv and the afm. The ICV I noticed has a thing inside that spins open and closed. I spun it open with my finger and cleaned it out good. I sprayed brake cleaner in there and then put it in a rubbing alcohol bath in a sonic cleaner. It hums when the ignition is on.

I replaced ALL of the vacuum hoses (except the intake boot and breather hose) also when I re-assembled the car. The intake boot I didn't see any cracks, but I did not look too hard.

I am going to go check the resistance values of the ICV, TPS, and AFM tomorrow. I will report back. My main question though is, could a bad TPS cause this high of an idle. I did polish the insides of the throttle body, as well as clean it up. The tps may have gotten bumped a few times in the process. Though today with it idling, I pushed the throttle the opposite direction to see if the TPS would switch on (if it was incorrectly set). No luck.

Goign to go try the penny trick, will report back.

Did you screw up your throttle body when taking off your mani? Is it stuck open?

Of course! How did I not check for that?

lol just temporarilly fixed it (to save gas). Idles at 800-1000 now. I took the icv and manually closed the valve and left it unplugged

You soaked your ICV in brake cleaner and rubbing alcohol?

I sprayed it with brake cleaner... and then put it in a rubbing alcohol bath in a sonic cleaner... I guess I got it too cleean.

But now with it bypassed (I stuck my finger in it and closed the valve), I still have an idle between 650 and 1100 rpms.

You can't get the ICV r throttle body too clean. Nor can you tell if the TPS is working by the presence or absence of a click. But if the ICV vibrates when the ignition is on, both the ICV and TPS can probably be eliminated as suspects.

A sticking throttle body, misadjusted or sticky throttle cable, misadjusted idle stop, or misadjusted cruise control cable are possibilities. But the most common cause of an abnormal idle are intake leaks. And the only sure way of telling if that is a cause is to have a smoke test run.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

What Jim said. Was you manifold powder coated where it mates to the head or was this masked off?

^ that part was masked off. I believe that my intake manifold is on tight enough

When putting my ear neat the tb I hear a hiss... so a vac leak.

I fell asleep today... and Im not in the mood to go check in the dark.

I did take the polishing wheel on the dremel and polish the throttle body remember... but I didn't remove any material.

There is no "I believe it is on tight". It either is or it isn't. Did you torque it to specs and use a new gasket?

I used all new gaskets. I dont have a torque gun... but I put my hand as close to the head of the ratchet and torqued it as tight as I could from that position. John Parker taught me that, he says it is generally all the torque you need.

I double check all 12 bolts

                      Does the tb close completly?

If I take my finger and push it close, the idle drops like 50 rpm or so.
