few questions and advice wanted please take the time to read =)

Hello guys first let me introduce myself. i have posted on here a few time so im going to introduce myself becuase i feel like a new memeber.
I just bought myself a 1984 325e 2 door. Its in pretty rought shape but luckily almost no rust! Im curretly in the process of sanding the shitty flat black paint down and painting it white. The car will be a track car but eventually will be registered and what not for a weekend warior :). Anyway the car doesnt start at this point it trys to crank up and you can smell the gas and everything is just gets no spark. Im not to sure of the problem. Anyway the car is going to be completly gutted from head to toe and a roll cage will be put in. everntually i will get the car painted the right way and will put full m3 body panels on it. I also would like some suggestions ands the best swap. honestly i was thinking about ripping the motor and tranny out and just refeshing then and rebuilding them a little and swapping the head (dont know wich one to get) so that it redlines higher and just boosting this motor to start out. eventually i would really like to do a full e36 m3 swap inlding the 5 lug conversion i mean the whole 9 yards. i will be making a build thread on this but dont expect it to be filled with 100 new pictures everyday and donein a month. Im only 19 years old. i made decnt money and have no bills other then car insurance so i will have a little more prgress then the average 19 year old. My friend is helping me and he knows way more then I do and also has a lot of connections to it should go pretty smooth. Also the engine is leaking a vagina load of oil. I havnt seen this much oil on the ground since i blew the motor in my BB6. Any idea on the starter problem? it has new plugs new alternator and something else the guy said. so far ive paid 1k for the car, some sand paper, some primer, some tape, some trash bags, the uhual trailer gas to make the 3 hour drive each way and the car itself. Not bad if i do say so myself. Looking forward to becomeing an active member on this board and hopefully one day this e30 will be one poeple drool over! =)

P.s my spelling is shitty and soemthing everyone will get over. Im about 2 get a seond job just to fund the project and will be in the marines soon also helping this project out. =)

Oh ya i forgot on thing. The passenger window was broken and stuck halfway down. I live in the VERY south east and it rains on a daily basis. So i unhooked it from the motor and ghetto rigged the shitt out of it to stay up and seal. And idea on how to get it more permanint until i can get a new motor. It will be a track car but power windows is something im going to keep. the back windows wil be lexan though

To start with you need to establish whether the fuel pump is running and whether there is spark when cranking the engine. If neither are present either the DME isn't getting timing data from the engine or the DME isn't powering up since normally both are controlled by the DME and are dependent on timing data being present.

If the pump is running (and hasn't been hot wired to run when the ignition is on) but there is no spark at the coil out, the coil could be bad, there could be no power to the coil, or the DME could be bad.

If the eventual goal is a track car, build the car to fit into a locally popular existing race class even if you have no intentions of racing the car. In this case that would be a Spec E30. That allows you to take advantage of a large body of expertise w/respect to the build or problems with the car, take advantage of expertise from the racing community w/respect to driving the car (fast), and gives you a ready market should you later decide to get rid of the car.

As to the oil leak, the first action needs to be to clean the engine so you can find the source.

As to the window problem. Since this is to be a track car there is no point in fixing it. When the cage goes in you want NASCAR bars for protection which means gutting the doors and using drop in plastic windows.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

thanks for the advice ill give those a check when i get the chance. im going to pull the motor and refresh it and probably stick a new head on it boost it. i was just going to swap something else in but i should work with what i have.
I want a track car but i would like to be able to drive it to meets and events now and them. so i think i want to keep the windows. My sisters bf got one of his friends to come weld in my cage. full nascar cage.. eventually right now probably isnt going to happen. Ill look more into the spec e30 class you where talking about.

most of the racing that goes on around me is drag racing, drifting, or street racing.
I want something that can handle all 3 and auto x and enything else i can give a shot. I either want to drop in a an e36 motor or possibly an e30 m3 motor. i want a solid 200whp to start with. like i said i do have a budget this isnt going to be balls to the wall track car withing 2 months. I just want to build it slowly and and make sure its getting done right with top end parts i dont want to cheap out.
