    Windshield Needs Replacing

Safety inspection coming up and I need a new windshield.

    How much does it cost?
Is it better to go to Jiffy Lube to get replaced?
Better to get glass from Dealer then have a shop install?
    Questions...advice, etc...

I have a huge crack in the windshield, doesn't leak but definitely prevent me from passing the inspection

I go through a windshield or two each year on the race car. I use Safelight for the glass and installation. The last one I had done cost $240.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I bought one from Giant Glass, just the glass and did it myself in less than a half hour, some people say to buy the BavAuto tool, but that didnt work for shit for me, I just used a plastic one inch tape knife, and a some spray can silicone lube.

edit: PPG or whatever the new company name is cost me 100 out the door.

I have another car with full glass coverage (wife's car), most glass places will rebate you up to $100 when using insurance. So I just had both windshields done at the same time and applied the credit to mine, the total bill came out to $75... Otherwise the cheapest quote I got was $150 installed but that guy seemed a bit shady, most legit quotes were $200-240.

gona do mine in the spring due to the molding being more pliable in warm weather but as i understand it, it's any easy job. the glass just pushes out from the inside after removing the molding. the new glass just gets set in there and replacing the molding will center it up. any body want to chime in if this is correct or not. new glass can be had for 140 or so.

I have a brand new windshield gasket that we didn't use when replacing a friend's windshield. Its OEM from the dealer. Let me know if you want it.

I pulled a junkyard special windshield and put it in in the same day. Just pull the lock strip out, and push the old one out from the inside. The hardest part for me was getting the "new" one inside the gasket. Start from a bottom corner and take your time working it into the gasket and you should be fine

If the bumper and windshield need to be replaced then they will probably total it. You will be lucky if you make it out with a clean title.

The car is in pretty solid condition so this is going to be interesting

I really would like to be able to drive it again but we'll have to see

How bad was the crash? Bumper and windshield could be like 2k at the insurance body shop, even though you could do it yourself for like 400.

just get a good one for 20 dollars at the junkyard. the beauty of these pull-in windshields is that they are easily servicable
