my 325i has 325e tach?!?

So my rpm readings are still correct then?? Maybe I should just get a working 325i tach since my gas gauge and odometer are not working anyways. haha.

Just get an entire junkyard cluster for $30 or whatever. Plan on replacing the SI board batteries (<$10?) and odometer gears ($15). Then you'll have plenty of spare parts. I've never had a gas gauge die on me even when my SI board was removed - might be worth checking out the sender/wiring going up to the gauge, and the grounds for the cluster.

No, I bought it from my P.O. like that. He thought the car was having problems and it could not rev higher than 5k. I just got a ETA one from the junkyard and swapped it out.

Lol i had a 325i/is tach on my 325e. Mine worked normally except it stopped at 4.5-5K rpm.

Actually 7200 is just fine for the bottom end.

Most people's first concern with revving that high is rocker arm failure and valve float.

lol yea you can rev it but it would just make your needle on the tach jump around looks pretty cool oh yea its ok if you do it lol

So I just bought my 89' 325i a week ago and the fact that I have the wrong tach is bothering me... I'm pretty sure I have the m20b25 engine in it. I've also checked my ecu when I installed a dinan chip and i have the motronic 173 on it. My tach only reads to 6k rpm and from my research I'm sure its from a seta. Now my question is... Would it be reading the wrong rpm??? Also since I have dinan chip is it ok for me to rev the car to the new 7200 rev limit even though my tach only reads to 6k??? Also my car is an automatic if that even makes a difference.
