    Fuel Leak, Found?

So my car is leaking fuel somewhere, you can smell it when the tank is near full, outside and slightly inside the car.

I looked underneath and my passenger side of the tank is dented in on the bottom, it also looks a little damp on the bottom of the tank near the middle of the car.

I just opened up the inspect lid from under the rear seat and there is a very strong gasoline smell. All the hoses look ok, however all around the connection into the tank area (is this simply the pump?) the paint is bubbling up/peeling right around where it goes in the tank and appears wet. I'm guessing this means that the seal needs replacing and this is likely the leak?

I tried looking at the parts diagram/stores but cannot seem to find this gasket/o-ring. Can anyone direct me to it?

    Thanks!

I believe this is what you're looking for.

If you're an early model it might be different.

Edit- Looks like that link might not work. It's listed as Fuel Sender Gasket on blunttech

Well that appears to be the right part, tomorrow I guess I'll dig in there and see what exactly isn't sealing properly. Thanks for the infos!

Ok so opened up the inspection lid and it's not actually wet around that area, just the paint is peeling, and a strong smell of gas.

The bottom of the tank however under the car IS wet and I can smell gas down there too. I cannot see where it would be coming from but I'm assuming somewhere on top of the tank must have a hole or one of the hoses is broken in an unreachable place.

Anywhere else I should check before dropping the tank?

I would try replacing that seal first anyways. Just because it is not wet up there doesn't mean it isn't leaking. The gas could have evaporated by now.

It would suck to pull the tank if you don't have to.

No doubt about that, just seems weird since that area is dry but the underside is wet.
