m44 style water pump removal q&a

Ive replaced one before on an m42 and it was a bitch to pull out. What are you guys doing to replace m42/m44 and maybe m5x water pumps that seem to be seized in the block? Before my dad had the right misc parts to make something like a puller but now that I dont live in massachusetts, I gotta make something on my own.

There are (2) threaded 'ears' on the pump that accept the WP's factory mounting screws(M6??). When you thread them, they effectively push the pump out. If the 'ears' strip out, grab it with both hands and use ur manly strength to break it loose. Perhaps, grab the pump with a set of big WP pliers(hahaha) and twist it a bit first.

IIRC when I did my M50 pump there were two threaded holes in the housing that you can use as a puller. only function for them that I can see, as they lead to a pad on the timing case. Unsure if the M4x family is the same way, but that is what I would try first
