    What would you do?

Today was hell. My car prolly wants to kill me.

Heres the scoop. I recently blew out a guibo (flex disc) and have been driving the car with a blown guibo. However, today I blew everything out!. My driveshaft is completely dettached from the tranny. I was driving along and then I hear the loudest crunch, and bam. Then my shift linkage breaks and falls through the bottom of the car.

My choices (if I have any): I was thinking that the bolts that connect the driveshaft to the guibo to the tranny are replaceable, but I don't know (as mine are completely destroyed; split in half). If they are replacable, I would like to keep going with this motor, and tranny. But for some reason I think the bolts that are connected to the tranny are a solid peice with the tranny. If thats the case, i'm gonna need a new tranny or that section of it. My other thought was to swap in a m30 if I can't fix my mistake. Or even an m20, but I'm leaning more towards the m30.

Since this happened I'm really off schedule for my plans of my car. And I wasted about 500 bucks on driveline parts for a m42. Not to mention a new oem oil pan I just got. I don't want to swap in the m30/m20 unless I'll have to buy a new tranny for the m42. Cause if so I might as well get a new engine and tranny and go from there.

I'm really in need of non-bashing advice. And if anyone in orange county area is welling to come over and give me a hand and check it out I would appreciate that as well.

    Thanks, James

I haven't worked on an M42, but on an M20, the bolts that connect the guibo to the tranny are not part of the tranny. They are just normal bolts with nuts. I would think it would be the same as an M42.

They are just regular old 10.9 grade bolts.

What they said. I just installed a new motor in an M42, and the driveshaft attaches the same way it does to our M20's.

I have an extra guibo and set of bolts if you need them just send me a PM.

Though as far as an engine swap I would go with the M20 unless you have alot of experience swapping BMW engines. The M30 is a heavier engine and a little more invloved when swapping into an E30 from what I've read. With either engine you will probably have to swap the transmission as well.

Yeah, I did look under the car. But the bolts are completely trashed, and I don't know to much about bolts for that matter. But yeah, I already have a new drive shaft (just to be on the safe side), and guibo. All I need now are the bolts and a ssk or OEM shift kit.

I really want the z3 ssk, but I bet it's pretty expensive. Let me know if you guys have or know of any decent ssk's for my car. Or even know anyone that wants to sell a z3 ssk.

Is under a hundred bucks expensive? Go for it.

I have a new large diameter guibo if you need it. I bought the wrong size so am selling it.

Really $100 for the EVERYTHING needed to bolt it to a m42 tranny? $100 bucks isn't that expensive. I just want to make sure I have everything I need to use the z3 ssk. Keep in mind that I have nothing left that's associated m42 shift kit; it's all gone.

m42sport thanks anways, but I got a new guibo already.
