Rattling and Binding sound - help?

So my E30 has this weird rattling, clacking sound that I can't diagnose.

My mechanic, who checked the car out for me before I bought it, said it was a driveshaft going out.

So I dropped the driveline, and sure enough, the driveshaft rear u-joints were frozen and the CSB rubber mount thrashed. Replaced the CSB and had the driveshaft rebuilt.

After doing that, I took the car for a drive, and within 5 minutes, the noise was back.

I started out as a clacking sound when I'd make a left turn, then quickly started doing it all the time.

It's this loud clacking/banging. It sounds like something is rattling against something else and binding every time the wheel turns. Sometimes it seems to bind really badly and you can hear this whining sound for a second.

It's not really a vibration you can feel easily in the car, and it sounds a lot more like it's coming from the rear as opposed to in the drive tunnel.

What could this be? I'm pretty damn sure I put the driveline in correctly, used a Febi CSB, had a pro shop assemble the driveshaft, and torqued all my bolts down tight...

Does the car have a LSD differential? Might be the clutches making noise, oil change and some friction additive does the job.

I was gonna say the same. When I removed my rear seat, I could hear everything coming from the LSD. Lubed it up and it's all good again.

A bad half shaft could cause this.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I pulled the half-shaft, and I think I found what the problem is.

The wheel bearing was completely toasted. As in an insane amount of play in the hub. You could hear ball bearings sliding around and clicking against each other. When I pulled the hub, the balls fell around everywhere, not a drop of grease on any of them.

So that seems to be the problem - I've never seen or heard a wheel bearing that bad. I just got this car, so PO must have not heard that whining sound in months of driving.

CV joint boots are intact and there doesn't seem to be any play in them - any other ways I can check them?
