    Heater Problem!!

The heater on my '91 318is is not working. I have done everything I have been told but it still not heating!! Water gets hot and is flowing through the heater thermostat (the one by the firewall) and that is the hose that goes into the heater core. However there is no water coming out of the heater core. I am assuming there should be a flow of water coming out of the heater core, correct?? The heater core has to pipes or lines that come out of the firewall. The lower one, at least in all the pictures I have research, is connected to the hose that comes out of the engine block with hot water and also has the additional thermostat. The upper one is connected to the return hose that goes to the radiator expansion tank. Is this the right connection setting?? Can anybody please share some wisdom?? this is driving me crazy!!!

Disconnect both hoses to the heater core then connect a garden hose to one of the pipes. Turn the water on slowly and if you do not see water coming out of the other pipe then your core is clogged. If you see water coming out then the thermostat is stuck closed.
