    Engine Lights won't shut off

    Please help,

I have searched but haven't found an answer. Story is:

bulb burned out behind speedo, I pulled cluster to replace bulb, fixed it, but then the speedo started working intermittently. So pulled cluster again and re-soldered the board, and speedo still doesn't work, so may be sender from diff, but now my e-brake, alternator, oil light, etc... won't turn off. The service interval (si) lights all work properly (green), then shut off, but the others don't.

I do have a flea bay chip in it (relatively new with less than 1k miles), and I did drive the car without the cluster for about a mile, it was raining and I didn't feel like walking to work.

I know I can pull the bulb, but I would rather fix the problem and make it work as it should. Please tell me its something easy, like reseting the interval lights or something. Thanks gang.

Those lights being on when the key is out suggests that ignition power is on. That could be a problem with the ignition switch or a wiring fault somewhere. I would tend to discount the cluster as being the cause, but if in the re-soldering you bridged and un-switched and switched connection that could be a cause.

Use a meter or test light to check for power to the coil positive. If there is power there, the ignition is on. To see if the fault is in the cluster, disconnect it and see if coil power goes away.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I probably did bridge something when re-soldering, but I must clarify, the lights are off when the key is off, its just everything stays on when the power is on, and driving.

Should I just buy a new (used) cluster, or si board? Thanks guys.

Okay, I misunderstood. All the lights being on with the engine running could be a problem in the cluster.

Problem solved. After driving it more than my regular commute of .5 miles one way, the lights decided to reset themselves and shut off. So I am leaning towards the fact that it was the DME chip. Only because the other time these lights hesitated to stay on, was when I put a new chip in. So I am guessing driving without the cluster that one time, caused the chip to freak out. And just like when you add a new chip, it takes a little driving to get it calibrated and set in, same must go for when I took the cluster out and drove without it (damn rain, this is california, no rain allowed :) ).

So thanks for the responses, saved myself from buying a new cluster and si board. Speedo still doesn't work, but now I am convinced that is the sender from the diff.

          thanks again r3v.
