My E30 has idle problems + check engine light comes and goes

My 325i is having a couple problems. I'm not sure if they're different or all related. When it idles, it idles rough and you can see the tach fluctuate like there's a loose vacuum line or something. When I'm at idle the check engine light comes on, then goes off again as soon as I rev it a bit. The previous owner mentioned he replaced the O2 sensor with a generic unit recently, if that matters. The car runs and drives great besides that. Should I try to figure this out myself or just take it to the shop and give them $65 to put it on the scope and have them pinpoint the problem for me? If I start replacing stuff it's going to add up quick and there's no guarantee it'll fix it. The previous owner knows quite a bit about BMW's and cars in general and he's certain it's an injector issue. What do you guys think?

the fluctuating idle with the check engine light flickering sounds like an O2 sensor to me. my car did that a while back and a new O2 fixed it. since it is a new car to you, you might want to take it down to a shop and pay them to look over the car and tell you everything they see wrong with it. it will only cost you $100 or so and it will probably save you $$ in the long run. i do have to warn you though, you now own an e30 which means you will constantly be buying new parts to fix a problem that will either not fix it at all or fix it but cause a new problem in the next few days. another word of advice, shop with bmaparts.com, always call and ask for patrick, tell him you are from r3v, he will hook you up with good prices and give you the best service in town.
